The neighbours talking about him in other languages

People from other countries take for granted that nobody understands what they are saying, and probably that’s the case 99 percent of the time. I’ve been tempted to learn Chinese so I can finally understand what my neighbours yell at each other in front of me. Can you imagine if they were criticizing me literally in front of my face? To be able to do that and rest assured nobody understands what you’re saying must be the strangest feeling. I think I would feel weird doing it even if I knew the other person couldn’t possibly understand what I just said.

Still, what happened to this neighbour wasn’t all that terrible; the lady was being cute even when she thought he didn’t understand her. In the end, it was just a bad haircut, and she explicitly said he looked beautiful before, so it’s just like something a grandmother would say. Like when you dye your hair green in adolescence, and she looks at you like you just robbed a bank. One totally feels closer, more familiar to somebody who treats you like that than to somebody who treats you with perfect kindness. Real affection is much messier, or at least it is for me. I love that it has turned into a game between them; I’m going to cut my hair short to see what my Chinese neighbours say, lol.
